Care to Learn

In the fall of 2011, several individuals from both the community and school, voiced their concern about the additional needs of students of Clever R-V School District. Although a backpack program was currently in place and meeting the hunger needs of students over the weekend when school lunches weren’t provided, there was a still a multitude of issues that needed to be addressed. And so a conversation began. And the Clever chapter of Care to Learn was born.

Since its inception, the Clever CTL chapter has made over 10,000 impressions. An impression is made each time a child’s life is impacted by the Care to Learn program. It may be a new pair of shoes, a weekend backpack, a dental exam, a coat, clothing item, eye glasses or medical attention.

Our goal as a Care to Learn chapter is to provide immediate funding to meet emergent health, hunger, and hygiene needs so every child can be successful in school.

Although the Clever chapter of Care to Learn is meeting the needs of Clever students, the conversation about poverty and the effect on a child’s school day is an ongoing conversation as faculty and staff try to better identify needs, meet those needs and make sure all the needs are funded. When basic needs go unmet, children cannot focus on the lessons before them. But with the help of Care to Learn we are able to provide for those needs.
